25 Oct 2009 8ak: While everyone is talking about the big opportunities in India's weapons purchase the reality is that this is a mind-numbingly slow process which often gets overtaken by bureaucracy rather than strategic needs. The big opportunity however lies in education and training where the armed forces, special forces and young Indian minds need to be trained in facing new and irregular threats, new equipment & technologies and defence manufacturing & design. In the next month 8ak will interview key players who are focusing on this segment.
Hindustan Times: French elite anti-terrorist force GIGN (the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group) has offered special training to India’s National Security Guard (NSG) commandos on a reciprocal basis. “We are considering the offer. We plan to soon put up a proposal before the government for sending our men to France for training,” NSG director general NPS Aulakh said on Friday
